Piercing Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential for the healing and maintenance of your new piercing. Follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth healing process and avoid complications:

CLEANING

1. Clean Your Hands: Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing

2. Clean the Piercing: Clean your piercing twice a day using a saline solution, like Base Laboratories Hypochlorous Acid Spray or Saline Spray. Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or other harsh chemicals or oils. These can be too drying.

GENERAL TIPS

  • Avoid Touching: Refrain from touching or twisting the jewelry unnecessarily. This can introduce bacteria and cause irritation

  • Keep it Dry: Pat the area dry with a clean, disposable paper towel after cleaning. Avoid using cloth towels, as they can harbor bacteria.

  • Avoid Sleeping on the Piercing: Try not to sleep on the side of the new piercing to prevent irritation and pressure. To purchase a piercing donut click HERE.

  • Be Mindful of Hair Products: Avoid getting shampoo, conditioner, or other hair products on your piercing. This can cause irritation on fresh piercings.

  • What to Avoid: Avoid swimming for the first 6 weeks. Avoid unnecessary touching or playing with the jewelry for the first 6 weeks.

HEALING

  • What to expect: It's normal for a new piercing to be red, tender, and slightly swollen for the first few days.

  • Infection: Watch for signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, pain, yellow or green discharge, or fever. If you suspect an infection, contact a healthcare professional.

  • Downsize: Schedule a downsize appointment within the 8-week healing period to replace the initial longer post with a shorter one that fits your anatomy better.
